We are accustomed to thinking of sustainability along the axis of environmental transition, but the keystone of the evolutionary process that the European Union, the UN and other supranational actors are designing is increasingly being shaped from a financial perspective.
The decisive actors in the evolutionary process become the players in the financing of the economy (funds, banks and other investors), who are called upon to assess the value and risk of their investments according to the medium- and long-term sustainability of individual initiatives.
A key element of the process is the extension of sustainability requirements to supplier companies, with the aim of extending ‘contagion’ throughout the chain. Supply chains are one of the key fronts for the establishment of a sustainable economic model from all relevant perspectives: environmental, social and governance.
