Social bonds are bond issues whose proceeds are used to raise funds to finance new and/or existing projects that address or mitigate a specific social problem. They are therefore instruments that support specific social objectives.

Examples are affordable housing, job creation including through SME financing and micro-financing, food safety and hygiene, socio-economic advancement and empowerment, etc.
